Education is a powerful tool. Never stop learning!

How do you define success?

To take pride in something you worked hard to accomplish. From a career you have worked hard for, to a car or a house you purchase, to being able to provide for your family.

Favorite thing about the cosmetology industry?

Teaching. I love seeing students come hungry to learn and seeing them succeed in the field — knowing I was a little part of the beginning of a career.

Favorite movie?

Overboard — not the new one but the old one with Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell.

Best advice you’ve ever been given?

My dad always said I can do anything if I set my mind to it, always work hard, stay motivated, and be 100% genuine.

Mullets and chili bowls. Enough said.

How long have you been doing hair?

I have been a licensed cosmetologist for 17 years. I love what I do where I work and who I work with!

Best advice you’ve ever been given?

If you can’t change the situation change your attitude. And work smarter not harder.

It’s forever evolving, old trends coming back while new trends develop.

Greatest strength?

I (at least try to) make sure everyone that meets me leaves feeling happier. I love to make people happy!

Why did you become an educator?

After doing hair for 15 years, I felt I could share my passion with people willing to learn!

What brings you the most joy in life?

My kids are my greatest joy in life!

How do you define success?

Being able to do something I love and take care of my kids!

Melissa has been a licensed cosmetologist doing hair since 2005 and become an educator in 2011.

What brings you the most joy in life?

My 4 kids! I have 4 boys and they are everything to me.

Favorite makeup?

Has to be lipstick. Lipstick is life, especially matte lipstick.

Favorite part of the cosmetology industry?

The sky is the limit. You can be whatever you want to be and you never stop learning.
